Dear People of God
Grace and Peace to you all.
Since Father George left in Jan, we have had the Rev Narelle Rilley take over services. This was initially for a month but was extended through Easter and to the end of April.
We now have Fr Peter Rothnie who has taken the reigns. He commence in May 2024. He recently did a few weeks in Dungog and Clarence Town, and has also been at Murrurundi and East Maitland.
He already shocked the Thornton congregation by shaking hands again for the peace. A change back after the distance waving of the Covid era.
Markets update
You may be wondering what is happening with the Thornton Markets? The Parish council did a review and after some discussion it was agreed to stop running the Markets at Thornton. They have never gained back their popularity after the break over Covid and some irregular cancellations due to rain in 2022.
We will continue to run the annual Christmas Faire but that will be an annual event, instead of monthly/quarterly markets.
Fun Fact
Each week at church we pray for our sister Diocese in Guadalcanal. However do you know where this diocese is?
It is one of the 9 dioceses of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (which covers Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia).
Guadaalcanal is an island of the Solomon islands, which includes Honiara (the largest Island of the Solomon Islands).
The diocese of Guadalcanal is covers part of the Island west of Honiara
